Or the last time his age will be measured in weeks, though really I usually respond to questions about how old he is with the measurements in months. So now I’ll be saying ‘he is one…plus a couple months.’ Ahh…that’s so surreal.
Last year at this time our phones were ringing daily with questions of ‘any news?’, ‘is baby here yet?’, and ‘how are you holding up?’. So in one short year he’s gone from being a cuddly, little ball to a walking, jabbering little man. And yes in person he’s like a little man and full of personality.
This week was full of activity too! We traveled home for a quick visit, so Cam got to play with his cousins and he has really taken to likely cars and pushing them around. He ate like a champ and amazed everyone with the amount he can put down when he is hungry. I tried my best to get him to see as many people as possible, but traveling in such a short period makes it hard to see everyone.
Daddy stayed at home to work on the porch deck, and got quite far along with it. Now we are just hoping he can get out of work on night before 8pm so that he can actually finish the stairs up so the deck is usable. If not it will make a good “table”.
On Sunday morning we met our photographer to do some one year photos of Cameron and us to cap out a great year. I really do think the money we’ve spent on photos, while not completely necessary, was a great investment. She really made sure to capture the real true Cameron from his sleepy newborn stage, to his curious baby stage, to his curious ‘toddler’ stage…(yes he toddles now).
Every time we look at the pictures we have our favorites that just remind us of our everyday experiences with him, plus we also have been able to capture pictures of us as a family.
This week dad has been working late nights so Cam and I have been busy getting prepared for his party. I’ve got crazy lists going on in Excel to help me keep it organized from the number of people, the food, the activities, grocery lists, and a list of things that need to get done. I was able to get the games finished with some help for Auntie Sabrina, Cameron helped me with some shopping for supplies and food one night, and I’ve got a lot of baking and cooking to get done.
Cameron and I make a good pair when he comes to getting things done, though sometimes they may take a little longer when he needs a little break. I have been trying to do some tasks after work, but before I pick him up from daycare, so that when he is home we can do some playing too. Or if I’m really lucky he takes an evening nap and I have time to bust out some work, as long as I don’t make much noise.
Mostly he is happy to play in the kitchen taking things out of cupboards or drawers. I also noticed that he has picked up on how to put things back in the cupboard too…which he did the other day after taking 3 items out he put them back in and closed the door. I guess he has seen me do it a few times, so he thought he’d try it out. He also has clearly noticed how dad and I drink out of our coffee mugs because the other morning he got a hold of my mug and began taking ‘sips’ like I do. Absolutely adorable!
This little boy has really made each day better, even during those middle of the night feeding or his current early wake-up calls. He smiles and looks at us with such light in his eyes we can’t help be happy to call him ours. And even though the baby stage is officially over, we look forward to all the fun (and not so fun) moments ahead. I’m so glad that one year ago he emerged into the world the same happy, healthy, crazy cute baby that he still is today!
